I've been looking a zee zee plant since I first heard about how hardy they are on Gardening By The Yard. Have you ever had one? I found this pix online.
I have one and it's beautiful...i just have a hard time taking care of it. I'm looking for someone who would know anything about this plant. My girlfriend has one in her office and it's growing so nicely but for whatever reason mine isn't growing as nicely, in fact, it has a couple of brown and yellow stems where the leaves have grown. Please help if you know anything about this plant. Thanks!
Sorry for the way late reply I was just looking stuff up about my plant and came across your question. Form what I read, it sounds like you're over watering it. the leaves turn yellow or brown with too much water. Make sure it's in the shade or a badly lit room and only water it when the soil is dry.
As I understand it this particular plant thrives on neglect. I finally did find one and keep it in the living room where it gets only indirect light. It's been growing well and I've had it since spring. Do you think you might be overwatering yours? They don't like being too wet. The cashier who rang up the sale when I bought mine says she only waters hers about once a month and I'm finding I do the same with mine.
According to what I heard from a horticulturalist, these plants are extremists - liking high or low light but nothing inbetween. Can't say I've tested that growing fact since i currently don't have one...which leads to a question of my own...does anyone know what the Genus name is?
Zamiocukas Zamiifolia "emerald fronds" according to a website I looked on. My understanding is you can make a new plant by simply pulling off a leaf and sticking it half way into soil. It does like to dry out between waterings. Sort of like a cactus. I just potted one I picked up at a garden center in Vermont and I used a bag of cactus soil. Have it in a northwest room. It's growing beautifully.

hi.. i have 2 zee zee plants..it's really easy to take care of. the leaves are always glossy and shiny. all you need to do is wipe the leaves 2-3 days a week and water them once every 3 weeks...i bought them in a chinese supermarket. i recently went to costco and they were selling them for $17.00. it was pretty tall & in a plant bucket.

I have this plant and is very easy to take care...I just put it right behind the window which requires lots of light and I water it twice a month...It is so beautiful and constantly has new leaf ....
